The great Alex Weyer:
A Luxembourgish magician
The presentation takes you on the fascinating journey of Alex Weyer, born Jean-Pierre Decker in Monnerich, Luxembourg in 1872. He emigrated with his family to the United States, where he began his career in New York and became a close friend of Harry Houdini. His dedication and talent led him to tour Europe and perform at famous venues such as the Moulin Rouge in Paris. The presentation concludes with some well-known magicians such as René Breckler, Jerry Darnelle and Perol and highlights the founding of an association known today as the Magica Club Luxembourg, which is still committed to preserving the art of magic today.
Véronique Faber has been researching and writing about the history of magic for many years. In 2012, she published a biography entitled ‘The Great Alex Weyer’, which deals with the life and career of the famous magician. She is currently working at the Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg, where she is writing her doctoral thesis on the transnational history of the Schueberfouer from 1945 to 1975.
The Magica Club is a non-profit organisation that brings together magicians from Luxembourg.
The club was founded on 11 March 1998. The purpose of the club is to promote Luxembourgish magicians and the art of magic in general. In 2003, the club joined the International Federation of Magical Societies (FISM).
Since 1998, an annual magic fair with a youth competition and a grand gala evening with international and national magicians has been organised.
